This painting shows the equipment and procedures involved in making a medicinal product, probably "water of endives".
In the center of the composition, a man pours a liquid into storage jars. He is surrounded by copper bowls and blue vessels. A large bag, containing realistically rendered endive plants, is shown in front of him at the bottom center of the painting. More endives are shown in a bowl on the left and one on the corner of the central table. To the left, in the shadows, a boy or man delivers raw materials. A large press with a vertical screw can be seen in the shadows at the right. More prominently to the right, the medicinal water is prepared by means of distillation, using a copper still with a Moor's head device and a furnace.
Believed to have been done by an artist close to Carlo Magini.
